3rd Thurs Program – The History of Senoia

Join NCHC for 3rd Thursday in August when we TAKE IT ON THE ROAD over to see our friends in Senoia at their wonderful history museum. There Ms. Bonnie Bobbit will give a talk on THE HISTORY OF SENOIA. RSVP encouraged and helpful, but not required for attendance. RSVP by calling 770-251-0207 or email taj@newnancowetahistory.com.

And if you like, gather with others from Newnan-Coweta at Maguire’s Tavern, 42 Mainstreet at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and socializing prior to the talk.

3rd Thurs Program – The History of Coweta

Native historian Jeff Bishop delivers an engaging talk on the History of Coweta and discusses his book, “Coweta County, A Brief History.”

Join us at the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair located at 275 Pine Rd on Thursday, September 19 in the Exhibit Building for this informative talk.

Oak Hill Cemetery Trolley Tour

Tour historic Oak Hill Cemetery in the City’s trolley! Tour includes the history of Oak Hill and spotlight on a few notable citizens from days gone by. Approximately 45 minutes. Park at the museum and board the trolley there. Tickets $35. This is a fundraiser for your local history museum. Tour time choices are 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Tickets, which are limited, go on sale in July. Stay tuned! This is a great opportunity for those who do not care to walk the cemetery in the upcoming walking tours on October 19th and 25th!

Oak Hill Cemetery Walking Tour

Join Newnan-Coweta History Center as we tour at dusk through Newnan’s Historic Oak Hill Cemetery on a guided walk of select gravesites. Storytellers and guides captivate guests with lively, engaging tales while dancers, musicians and artists also contribute to this special event that celebrates living, history and the arts.

The 2024 Oak Hill Cemetery Tour is being planned for Saturday, Oct. 19 and Friday Oct. 25 with tour times starting at 5:30p.m. New tours head out every 20 minutes. Tour Oak Hill Cemetery at dusk with skilled guides in character who take you through to visit some of those who’ve come before us. Also, take in the “History by Candlelight” museum tour. Enjoy live entertainment and AWESOME ELLISON BROS BBQ FOOD TRUCK in the back garden of the museum. Tour lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes! Questions? Historic Church & Candlelight Tour

As part of this year’s Christmas Tour of Homes (Fri 12/6) hosted by Newnan Presbyterian School, the Newnan Coweta History Center is hosting a Historic Church Candlelight Tour in downtown Newnan the following evening on Saturday, December 7 from 5 to 8 pm. These are two cojoined fundraising events — one for the Newnan Presbyterian School and one for the Newnan-Coweta History Center!

Tour the historic churches of Newnan at dusk as they’ll be lit and awash in glowing candlelight and stunning Christmas decor. Hear docents tell about the history of the church and take away historic information on each church on the tour which to date includes Newnan Presbyterian Church, Newnan First Methodist, Central Baptist Church, Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church.

Live music and refreshments at some locations. More details to come.
